Tike in short

Tike is a Czech bike tent. It is a tent for two cyclists that is pitched on their two bikes turned upside down, so it needs no tent poles. The inner tent hangs between the bikes, the fly covers everything, and the bikes sleep under the same roof as the riders, safe from theft and weather. Tike is a working prototype in development.

The idea

By day your bike carries you. At night it carries the tent.

On multi-day trips you carry a tent, poles and the worry about where your bikes will spend the night. Tike needs no poles. You turn the bikes upside down onto their saddles and handlebars and pitch the tent on them.

Your bikes aren't locked to a tree outside. They are part of the tent, so nobody takes them without you knowing.

Why Tike

Less on the rack, more peace at night

No poles, packs small

Your bikes are the frame, so there are no poles to carry. What's left is the fly, the inner tent and a few pegs.

Two riders, two bikes

Room for two adults to sleep comfortably, with space left for luggage.

Bikes kept safe

Your bikes sleep under the same fly as you, protected from theft and bad weather.

Pitching

How to pitch Tike

Five steps from stopping for the night to falling asleep.

Step 5 · Fly pegged out
  1. Set the spacing

The inner frame sets how far apart the bikes stand.

  2. Fit the protectors

Put protectors on the saddles and handlebars so neither the bikes nor the fabric get damaged.

  3. Flip the bikes

Stand both bikes upside down and anchor them to the ground.

  4. Hang the inner tent

Clip the inner tent between the bikes.

  5. Pull over the fly

Cover the bikes and the inner tent with the fly and peg it out.

The story

It started because I needed it

I'm Petra Krhutová. I go on multi-day bike trips and sleep in a tent. Every time, the same question came up: where do the bikes go for the night? I couldn't find a light, roomy tent that would also fit two bikes.

So I started working on one. The bike that carries you by day holds up the tent at night. That idea became Tike, and I'm now taking it from prototype to a finished tent.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is Tike?

Tike is a bike tent: a tent for two cyclists that is pitched on their two bikes turned upside down, so it needs no tent poles. The bikes sleep under the same fly as the riders. It comes from the Czech Republic.

How many people fit in Tike?

Two adults, their two bikes and luggage.

Do I need tent poles?

No. The upside-down bikes replace the poles, and a few small pegs are enough to anchor the tent.

Are the bikes safe overnight?

The bikes are part of the tent and sleep under the same fly as you, so nobody can quietly take them. They are also protected from rain and dew.

How much does Tike weigh?

The final weight isn't set yet. Tike is at the prototype stage, and the weight will be confirmed with the final version. Because there are no poles, what you carry is the fly, the inner tent, the protectors and a few pegs.

When can I buy Tike and how much will it cost?

Tike is still a prototype and is not for sale yet. There is no price yet. Leave your contact below and I'll let you know when it's available.

Does Tike work with any bike?

Tike is designed for ordinary touring and mountain bikes. Both bikes stand upside down on their saddles and handlebars with protectors fitted, and the inner frame sets their spacing. The prototype in the photos is pitched on two mountain bikes.
